Infertility and pregnancy loss are deeply personal struggles that many women face, often in silence. In this episode, I had the privilege of speaking with Danielle Bartholomeusz, a mother of three who battled secondary infertility, recurrent pregnancy loss, and the emotional weight of an uncertain journey.
Danielle’s story is one of unwavering determination, self-advocacy, and the power of belief. She shares how she went from receiving devastating statistics about her fertility to holding her miracle baby in her arms—all while embracing holistic health, spirituality, and an unshakable mindset.
Danielle’s Fertility Journey: From Loss to Hope
Danielle, now 44, became a mother at a young age and had her first two children without any issues. However, after remarrying and deciding to expand her family, she faced a devastating roadblock. She experienced multiple early pregnancy losses, each occurring between four and six weeks.
Her doctors initially dismissed her concerns, telling her to “just keep trying.” But after her third loss, she knew something wasn’t right. It wasn’t until her acupuncturist suggested testing for the DQ Alpha gene match and natural killer cells that she uncovered a hidden factor affecting her pregnancies.
A specialist later confirmed that she and her husband had a partial DQ Alpha gene match, which meant her body didn’t recognize the embryo as something to protect. Instead, her immune system attacked the pregnancy.
Despite experiencing five losses, Danielle refused to give up. She sought out one of the few doctors in Australia who specialized in her condition, enduring long waitlists and repeated heartbreak.
Finally, she began an immune protocol that included medication, steroids, and a controversial but effective treatment—leukocyte immunization therapy (LIT). This process involved injecting white blood cells from her husband into her body to help it recognize future pregnancies as viable.
After going through the entire protocol, Danielle became pregnant again. But at nine weeks, she suffered another loss. Instead of seeing it as failure, she held onto the fact that this pregnancy had progressed further than the others. This was a sign that her treatment was working.
By this time, Danielle was emotionally and physically drained. Her husband wanted to stop trying, concerned about her well-being. But deep down, she knew their baby was still waiting for them.
She focused on healing her body naturally, going gluten- and dairy-free, working with a naturopath, and reducing inflammation. She also began processing her grief through women’s circles and spiritual work, allowing herself to fully acknowledge the pain she had been carrying.
During one of these sessions, the facilitator told her, “Don’t give up. Amelia is coming.” Three months later, Danielle conceived—this time, completely naturally.
Unlike previous pregnancies, Danielle had a deep knowing that this baby was here to stay. She wasn’t consumed by fear. She wasn’t anxiously checking for signs of loss. Instead, she focused on trust, faith, and gratitude.
Despite medical pressures to induce early due to her age, she advocated for herself, trusting her body’s ability to carry her baby to term. Amelia arrived healthy, strong, and right on time.
Danielle’s story is a testament to the power of belief, self-advocacy, and holistic healing. When asked what she would say to women navigating their own journey, she shared this wisdom:
Danielle’s story is a powerful reminder that statistics don’t define your journey. She was told she had only a 5% chance of conceiving naturally. But with the right mindset, medical support, and holistic care, she defied those odds.
If you are in the wait—whether you are healing after a reversal, struggling with infertility, or processing loss—do not give up. If God has placed this desire on your heart, there is a reason for it. Hold onto that belief, take care of your body, and surround yourself with the right support.
Your miracle is waiting for you.
