Mom of two VR miracle babies after 40, retired Air Force veteran, and holistic fertility coach—I love helping couples bring their own miracle babies into the world. When I’m not podcasting or coaching, you’ll find me homeschooling, planning retreats, or having spontaneous kitchen dance parties with my kids.
Feeling lost after your vasectomy reversal? The VR Baby Blueprint is a 1:1 coaching program designed to help you optimize fertility, understand what your body needs, and finally get real answers—so you can stop feeling stuck and start moving closer to holding your baby in your arms.
Waiting for those two pink lines can feel like an emotional rollercoaster—especially when you’ve done everything “right” and still end up with a negative test. If you’ve just gone through a failed IUI and are feeling frustrated, discouraged, or even questioning your next steps, know that you’re not alone. I’ve been there, and I know the heartbreak of feeling like time is slipping away.
For many couples trying to conceive after a vasectomy reversal, IUI is often presented as the next logical step. But what if IUI isn’t your best option? And more importantly, what if there’s more you can do right now to improve your chances of success naturally?
In this post, I’m sharing my personal journey—why IUI didn’t work for me, how I pivoted to a holistic approach, and what you can do to optimize your fertility after a failed IUI.
“You’re healthy. Your labs are normal.”
Those words were anything but reassuring when I was desperately trying to get pregnant. My husband’s vasectomy reversal had been successful, and his sperm were testing well. But since I was nearing 40 (and let’s be real—so many doctors love to throw around the word geriatric), I assumed something must be wrong with me.
I had gotten pregnant easily in my 20s, so why was this time so different?
With time feeling like my enemy, IUI seemed like the best option. Everything was lining up—my follicle count was strong, I was scheduled for a trigger shot, and my husband was set to come home from his deployment just in time.
And then his jet broke down. In Italy.
Another missed opportunity. Another month of waiting.
The next cycle, we tried again. Another round of meds. Another trigger shot that made me sick. Another IUI. Another negative test.
Something about the process didn’t sit right in my heart. It felt forced. Clinical. Like it was taking the magic out of what I believed God was calling us to.
So we pivoted. We refocused on holistic, natural methods. And the very next month? We got a positive pregnancy test.
I share this because if you’re feeling defeated after a failed IUI, I want you to know that there is hope. There is so much more in your control than you might realize.
Let’s talk about what you can do to take back control of your fertility naturally.
I know. When you’re longing for a baby, being told to “stay positive” can feel dismissive. But hear me out—mindset does matter.
Fear-based thoughts like:
I’m too old.
It’s taking too long.
Something must be wrong with me.
These thoughts trigger a chemical stress response in your body. And stress isn’t just emotional—it directly impacts ovulation, egg quality, and even sperm health.
Take a deep breath and remind yourself:
My body was designed for this.
I am more than a statistic.
God’s timing is always better than mine.
If you need encouragement, I love Philippians 4:6-7:
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.”
Your body needs the right fuel to support conception. Studies show that a Mediterranean-style diet can improve fertility outcomes. Here’s what that looks like:
At the same time, try to cut back on inflammatory foods like processed snacks, refined sugars, and trans fats. And don’t forget fertility-boosting herbs like turmeric, ginger, and cinnamon!
Just because your labs are “normal” doesn’t mean they’re optimal. Key areas to focus on:
Progesterone Levels: Low progesterone can impact implantation. If you’re unsure about your levels, let’s talk!
Thyroid Support: Selenium (Brazil nuts), iodine (seaweed), and zinc (pumpkin seeds) are crucial.
Blood Sugar Stability: Every meal should include protein, fiber, and healthy fats.
Chronic stress increases cortisol, which disrupts fertility hormones. A few ways to lower stress:
Blessings and miracles appear in my life daily.
Move your body: A walk or bike ride can do wonders.
Deep breathing: Just 10 minutes a day lowers cortisol.
Daily affirmations: Try saying these to yourself:
I trust God’s timing.
My body knows exactly what to do.
After a vasectomy reversal, sperm can take time to fully recover. It takes 72-90 days for new sperm to regenerate, which means today’s choices impact fertility 3 months from now.
If your partner’s sperm count isn’t where you want it to be, don’t panic—this often improves with time and the right support. Here’s what helps:
A nutrient-dense diet rich in zinc, selenium, and CoQ10
Loose-fitting underwear to prevent overheating
Reducing toxin exposure from plastics, smoking, and excess alcohol
Prioritizing sleep and stress management
And remember, fertility isn’t like Amazon Prime—you won’t see results overnight. But the changes you make today set the stage for your future baby.
IUI success rates after a vasectomy reversal range from 10-20% per cycle, which means most couples will need several rounds—or may not conceive through IUI at all. That doesn’t mean you’ve failed. It just means your body may need something different.
My biggest piece of advice? Give your body time.
Conception isn’t just about medical intervention—it’s about faith, patience, and creating an environment where life can thrive.
